1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter 1 1/4 cups white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 5 eggs 1/4 cup milk 3 cups white all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons sugar 3 tablespoons cocoa powder 3 tablespoons water
cooking spray 1 tablespoon flour for dusting baking dish confectioner's sugar to dust cake
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cut butter into several pieces and place into large bowl.
Add sugar.
Mix with electric mixer until crumbly.
Add vanilla extract.
Add one egg at a time. Beat with mixer until well-blended. Add remaining eggs, one at a time.
Add milk.
Mix well with mixer.
Put flour into medium bowl. Add baking powder.
Add salt.
Mix well with spoon.
Add flour mixture to the egg mixture.
Mix with spoon until smooth.
Spray baking dish with cooking spray. Sprinkle with flour.
Tilt baking dish slightly to cover its sides with flour.
Spoon half of batter into form. Level batter with back side of spoon.
Add sugar to remaining half of batter.
Add cocoa powder.
Add water.
Mix well with spoon.
Spoon on top of batter in baking dish.
Level with back of spoon.
Insert fork into batter. Turn it around to make swirls.
Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 50 to 60 minutes. Test with wooden skewer or toothpick: insert it into cake and take out - if nothing sticks to it, the cake is done. If batter sticks to it, bake cake for additional 5 minutes or until skewer comes out clean.
Unlock baking dish and take side part off. Place cake onto cooling rack. Cool completely.
Run spatula or knife between cake and baking dish bottom to release cake.
Dust cake with confectioner's sugar, cut into pieces and enjoy!
