INGREDIENTS:
4 pears
1 bottle of red wine (any wine
you have)
1/c cup sugar
1/2 cinnamon stick, broken into
pieces or whole
6 whole cloves
lemon peel from half lemon
DIRECTIONS:
Peel pears with peeler or paring
knife, leaving stem.
Place them into a large pot.
Add wine.
Add sugar.
Add cinnamon.
Add cloves.
Cut several pieces of lemon peel.
Add lemon peel to pot.
Bring wine to a boil over medium
heat. Reduce heat to
medium-low and cook pears
uncovered for 30 to 45 minutes
or until desired tenderness.
Ideally, pears should be soft but
still hold their shape. Carefully
take pears out of wine with
slotted spoon and place on
serving plates. Cook remaining
wine over medium heat for about
20 minutes or until it evaporates
and decreases in amount 3
times, and turns into thin syrup.
Cut another piece of lemon peel
into thin strips.
Pour small amount of syrup over
pears and decorate with
reserved lemon peel.
