Stocking up on basic ingredients
There are basic items that every pantry should have:


  • Flour (all-purpose)

  • Baking powder and baking soda

  • Sugar (granulated white; light and dark brown; confectioner’s)

  • Salt

  • Dried herbs and spices (rosemary, oregano, thyme, parsley, chives, basil, Italian,
    tarragon, marjoram, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder,
    curry powder, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, bay leaf)

  • Olive oil (extra virgin and regular)

  • Vegetable oil

  • Broth and stock (chicken, beef, vegetable) – canned, cubed, or powdered

  • Noodles (spaghetti, elbows, penne, etc.)

  • Rice (white, brown, basmati, Arborio, sushi – whichever you prefer)

  • Tomato sauces and paste

  • Lemon juice

  • Vinegar (white and balsamic)
